Using the excavation data, and with help from of the archeologists, we created a scaled model of the structure. Using a holographic video projection, 80 extras dressed in period dress are seen crossing from one bank of the Saint-François River to the other, from dawn to dusk. With them we relive a day in the life of the city’s first stone span.
The changing light of the day is enhanced by an animation technique that highlights the profiles and attitudes of an array of early 19th century Montrealers that would have used the bridge around 1824.
The interplay of light, textures and reflections brings this magnificent forgotten structure back to life, the ruins of which are still in place beneath Place D’Youville. This intimate immersive presentation unfolds at the confluence of architecture, sculpture and cinema.
